Contrast radiology
Contrast radiology
Upper gastrointestinal radiology is not used as much as in previous years, as endoscopy is a more sensitive investigation. Computed tomography (CT) imaging with oral contrast has replaced contrast radiology in many of the areas where anatomical information is sought, e.g. large hiatus hernias of the rolling type and chronic gastric volvulus. In these conditions it may be di ffi cult for the endoscopist to determine exactly the anatomy or, indeed, negotiate the deformity to see the distal stomach (see Chapter 66 ).
