TYPHOID Introduction
TYPHOID Introduction
Typhoid fever is caused by Salmonella Typhi , also called the typhoid bacillus, a Gram-negative organism. Like most infec tions occurring in the tropics, the organism gains entry into the human gastrointestinal tract as a result of poor hygiene and inadequate sanitation. It is a disease normally managed by physicians, but the surgeon may be called upon to treat the patient with typhoid fever because of perforation of a typhoid ulcer. TYPHOID Introduction
