INDETERMINATE COLITIS
INDETERMINATE COLITIS
Approximately one in 10 patients with colitis presents with histological features that make their disease di ffi cult to charac - terise. While the clinical history may suggest the diagnosis in some cases (for example, a history of recurrent perianal sepsis and fistulation would make a diagnosis of CD more likely), in others it may remain unclear whether a pa tient has UC or CD. In such cases, it may still be appropriate to o ff er IPAA after detailed informed consent, but the risks of pouch failure appear to be significantly higher (up to 25–30%) and patients should be advised accordingly . -
