Surgical approaches to resection of liver tumours
Surgical approaches to resection of liver tumours
Parenchyma-preserving resections that achieve adequate oncological clearance have emerged from an understanding of oncological principles and the impact of chemotherapy on hepatic function. Such resections preserve functioning liver volume, improving postoperative recovery , reducing morbidity and facilitating re-do surgery for recurrent metastases. Limited extrahepatic disease is also no longer an absolute contraindi cation and pulmonary and adrenal metastases and contiguous portal vein lymph nodes are increasingly resected.
